FRIENDS  OF
WATERFRONT
PARK

Seattle’s Waterfront Park has been 10 years in the making. I had the honor of working on a variety of print, wayfinding signage, and brand discovery with the marketing team at Friends of Waterfront Park.
The city of Seattle had already been eagerly awaiting the grand opening of the marvelous, 20-acre space. Continuing to drum up excitement despite staggered opening times was what tangible information aimed to accomplish.

Alongside the gradual preparation for the official grand opening, free events were taking place over the course of the year. From restrooms to fountains, ribbon cutting ceremonies were taking place all around the park.
The strategy was to create informational collateral in Friends’ signature brand colors while maintaining readability and comprehension. Balancing the array of visual elements consistently was the challenge.
Experiencing the park in three ways—as a graphic designer, a photographer, and a city lover—was eye-opening when it came to finalizing my work. Each time I stepped into the space, I knew exactly what I wanted to capture: the park bustling and alive.
Growing up in Seattle means that, like other kids growing up in the Puget Sound, parts of my childhood are inextricably tied to the waterfront. Being involved with the marketing and communication efforts to share the space I grew up playing at brings me full circle in a new way.
Each time I went back to the park, I saw a new project I had helped launch. Whether it was wayfinding signage or promotional print materials, it was exciting to see my work within a space I cherished so much.
Working with Friends of Waterfront Park was exciting—I contributed to one of Seattle’s most iconic spaces and worked with an incredible team.

Being part of a project so much larger than myself inspired me to continue looking for projects supporting natural community spaces. It's the kind of space we all benefit from.
